I believe cultivating a bodily perspective generates an empathy to and
potential for a greater range of experience.
In alliance with domestic and international institutions and peoples
I am committed to the development of bodily awareness as a basis
for social interaction and
cultural exchange by employing dance as a medium for critical discourse in
research, performance and education.
Philosophy
Our perspectives
are shaped by our movement through life. Through
the filter of socially and culturally conditioned behaviors and reflexes
an individual creates an efficient and pleasurable
movement repertoire unique
to their tastes and preferences. Whether this individual rep continually
brings them satisfaction through life relies on the individual’s
capability to interpret and integrate the bombardment of sensations one
experiences
in this
life.
The capability to continually adjust our habits to insure both physical
and psychological well-being is a unique attribute of man.
I aim to recognize this strength in individuals and promote the maturation
of a bodily awareness that runs parallel to the culturally standard development
of intellectual reasoning and abstraction. I believe cultivating a bodily
perspective
generates an empathy to and potential for a greater range of experience.A more differentiated
mass be it a social body like a business or our own bodies runs in a more efficient
way by allowing parts to express
their unique potential
while being integrated into a whole. Making distinctions between movements
in the body opens us up to being more creative to the interpretation
of new stimulus
on a physical as well as intellectual level. In this way we link motivation
to action in an immediate manner. This knowledge allows us to be flexible
in a wide
range of social contexts - promoting unity while preserving the integrity
of the individual.
By identifying and developing a bodily etiquette in our work we support
the development of a global society in which the sensitivity and keen
intellect of an individual
is a full-bodied experience.
Dance being a social medium, a purposeful exchange of moving bodies,
makes it a perfect medium for the active development of this philosophy.
Projects
These attitudes are motivated by past and current educational and live
performance projects.
My work method has a strong emphasis on process and community. It is
one of creating multiple hypotheses’ surrounding the topic of
inquiry or inspiration, researching and experimenting in private but
also in sessions
open to the pubic. Workshops and work in progress showings are an integral
part of shaping the perspective of the work I create: complimentary
to my belief in
dance as an active medium
for social discourse and communal exchange. Outside a more common,“ development
of dance in a studio model,” my
collaborators and myself further the development of our creative work
by linking it to educational forums held for adults and children in
our immediate
communities.
A willingness to learn involves vulnerability essential to acquiring
new skill sets and sensations, and, is inevitably empowering. I continually
aim for this
sort of transparency in our process and wish to unite and grow with
those who witness and experience these trails.
