WANDA
GALA is
an arts educator and choreographer from the US whose work integrates
somatic methodologies into thecreation and teaching of contemporary
dance. While Ms. Gala’s
courses and performance laboratories have a strong base in classical and modern
techniques
they synonymously address pedestrian movement through studies in movement impulse
and
motivation, spatial awareness, structural anatomy and improvisation. Her multidisciplinary
dance
dramas examinethe entropy and distortion of individual and cultural ideals,
mythologies and fantasies.
These," post nuclear family tales" (LA Weekly) occur in theatrical,
installation, filmicand site-specific contexts.
Individual and collaborative works have been presented in the US and abroad
in Poland, Switzerland,
Scotland, and Italy. Most recent showings include the screening of “Okno(
Okna, dwzi, sciany)”
at the American Dance Festival and Festival Era Nowy Horyzonty in Wroclaw,
Poland.
Besides working with children in public and private schools in the US she has
lead workshops
for two years at the Thirteenth and Fourteenth International Contemporary Dance
Conferences in
Bytom, Poland. Ms. Gala also has served as an artist in residence (2005-2006)
